Data product search filters

This page describes the available filters (parameters) for data product search.

Time

Sol

A sol is a Martian day, with Sol 1 defined as the first full day of operations after landing. Enter only a start sol to restrict searches to a single sol. Enter a start and end sol to indicate a range of sols. Use the drop down menu to quickly enter values based on the most recent sols.

SCLK (Spacecraft Clock Count)

Define SCLK Enter only a start SCLK to restrict searches to a single SCLK. Enter a start and end SCLK to indicate a range of SCLK values.

UTC Date

The UTC date value(s) entered are compared to the observation start and stop dates.

L sub s

The L sub s values are compared to the solar longitude values in the product label. A start and end value must be entered.

LTST

The entered start and optional end values are compared to the local true solar time reported in the product label.

Location

Site

A site is designated by the science team as a location delineated from its neighbors by one or more characteristics, such as distance and surface properties. Site numbers increment over time at irregular intervals.

Drive

A drive (sometimes called a "position" in the daily reports) is a location within a single site. That is, a single site may comprise multiple positions. While drive numbers increment with time within a site, they are not sequential.

Pose

A pose is the third value in the ROVER_MOTION_COUNTER keyword found in the PDS label. The pose value increments when certain movements occur on the rover.

Instrument

Select one or more instruments to restrict the returned data. Note the high-level nature of the instrument options: left and right Navcam images are grouped simply as "Navcam"; ChemCam LIBS and RMI data are grouped as "ChemCam".

Sequence options

Sequence IDs are 9 characters long, comprising a 4-character sequence category and a 5-digit numeric ID. For example: You may search on a partial sequence ID by entering the 4-character category, or search for a specific sequence by entering the complete 9-character value. Note that the aut_ sequence is always aut_04096 and is commonly used. When searching on the aut_ sequence, include additional constraints, such as time or instrument.

Click on "Help me choose" in the search form options to see a list of sequence categories grouped by instrument.

Source

The source option value is compared to the SOURCE_ID value in the PDS label. Use this keyword when searching on Navcam data to find/avoid sun images, autonav images, etc.

Eye/filter options

Eye

Some instruments, such as Hazcam, Navcam, MER Pancam and MSL Mastcam, have left and right cameras. Use the Eye option to search for data for a specific eye. When searching for mosaics, use the Eye option that is grouped with other mosaic options.

Filter

The MER Pancam and MSL Mastcam instruments have multiple camera filters as shown below. Use the Filter option to specify one or more filters.

mission specific

msl
MER

Image measurements

Some images are acquired as part of a stereo pair from which XYZ values are derived. When available, these XYZ data are used to make position-based measurements using the Image tool measurement tools, such as location, distance, and profile.

Product type

Observational data may be represented in multiple types of products, such as a radiometrically corrected image, initial spectrum, and slope map. There are hundreds of product types. Refer to Software Interface Specification (SIS) documents for individual instruments to find out more about specific product types.

Use this option to search for specific product types. If product type is not specified, search will return the primary product type.

Data producer

This search option is not currently available.

Mosaics

Type

There are two types of mosaic (panorama) images in the Notebook.

  • Archive mosaics are produced by the science team and are part of the PDS archive.
  • Context mosaics are produced by the Notebook team to provide context when there is no archive mosaic.

Projection

Use this option to search for mosaics with specific projections. Available projections are:

  • Cylindrical
  • Cylindrical perspective
  • Perspective
  • Polar
  • Vertical perspective

Eye

Stereo camera mosaics are made from all left-eye or all right-eye images. In some cases, a pair of left-/right-eye mosaics are combined to produce an anaglyph stereo mosaic.

Additional filters for mosaics

In addition to type, projection, and eye, these data product search filters may by applied to mosaic searches:

  • Sol
  • Site, drive
  • Instrument
  • Product ID

Product ID

Enter a full or partial product ID to search on Product ID values. Wildcard characters are not necessary as the entered value will automatically be treated as a partial product ID.
